The Barcodes Extension is being Discontinued

Published 2022-12-18

Due to some legal complications and the fact that it appears to go against the school policy in general, the Barcodes extension is now discontinued and will be removed in February next year. This means that not only will the extension no longer be available for install, but it will also be uninstalled for any existing users. Any existing users should download their barcodes by February next year.

Paragon v2 Release

Published 2022-01-16

TLDR; Paragon v2 is being released in Term 2 and you can view the beta version here during Term 1.

While I know a lot of you were hoping that I could have Paragon v2 out by the start of Term 1, I unfortunately will not be releasing it then. Instead, the full release will be (hopefully) at the start of Term 2.
There are a number of reasons for this, the 2 main ones being:
  1. I need time for testing Paragon.

  2. I’m hoping to get the domain paragon.au.

During Term 1, a beta version of Paragon v2 will be available at [https://paragon.pages.dev](https://paragon.pages.dev). This version can, and will, change at any notice and may show incorrect data while I iron out all the bugs.
See you all at school!

Paragon now supports the new school API

Published 2021-12-16

The daily timetable has been fixed! It does however, show sport as a class with “No one”. I’ll be looking at making that appear as a break, like Lunch and Recess, rather than a class. Another thing is that recess is now labelled as “Break”. Not sure if it’s a permanent change. Either way you can tell me on the discord server whether you prefer it this way or not. The timetable still looks a bit weird, but I’ll probably be fixing that tonight. Fingers crossed that no more massive changes come out and break Paragon again.

Timetable updates

Published 2021-11-26

I’ve released some updates to the timetable. They include updating the class names so they no longer show the extra digits or letters, and removing the sport class. The timetable should now be working as it used to.

Problems with daily timetable and timetable

Published 2021-11-25

Well, it appears that something has been changed on the school servers with regards to the data. Currently, the daily timetable is broken, and will be stuck infinitely loading. I’ll look into whether it is to do with the format for the data permanently changing, or just a temporary error. Also, the timetable is working, but the class names look weird now. I’ll look into fixing that as well, but it’s not high priority as it’s technically not broken.

Problems with Timetable and Dailytimetable

Published 2021-11-16

Starting sometime around yesterday, the school servers started returning blank responses for the timetable. This means that the timetable in Paragon will be stuck in a state of infinite loading. It also means that the dailytimetable will just be blank, or show an error message. I don’t know when this will be fixed. However, everything else will remain working. You can still view the daily announcements and use your barcode to scan in.

School servers are working again!

Published 2021-10-29

The school servers are working again, so you should be able to access your daily timetable as normal now.

Even Worse News

Published 2021-10-28

Currently, the problem with the school servers is continuing. This means that you currently will not be able to access your daily timetable. I will be releasing a fix soon, hopefully sometime today. However, it will probably not be active until Friday. Because of that, and I hate to say this, don’t use Paragon until then. Due to some *cough* bad *cough* programming, for the time being, Paragon will continually refresh itself, chewing up a lot of battery and also spam my servers with lots of requests.

So, just to recap, don’t use Paragon until Friday and keep checking here for updates.

Bad News

Published 2021-10-28

REALLY BAD NEWS. Someone stuffed up real bad with the school servers, and for some reason, they are still returning the current day’s timetable even after school has ended. This means that Paragon will not be able to update your daily timetable until the start of the next day. I’ll be releasing a hotfix for this sometime tomorrow, hopefully.

As far as I can tell, this also affects Dinnerjacket and Classti, but not the Student Portal.

Hotfix to stop constant reloading is released!

Published 2021-10-28

The hotfix for stopping Paragon from constantly reloading is released! In order to get it, head to settings and press “Fix”. (Don’t do this on the school wifi as Paragon is blocked at school and this will simply make it so that you can’t access Paragon at all.) Note that this won’t cause your daily timetable to appear. It simply makes it so that Paragon stops constantly reloading.

If you have any bugs, head to the Paragon Support Discord Server.

In summary, head to settings and press “Fix” as soon as you can.

Changes in Paragon v2

Published 2021-10-03

What is Paragon v2?

Originally, Paragon was planned to be released with more features than are currently available. Features such as extensions and a calendar. However, due to time constraints, a lot of these features were left out when releasing Paragon.

The idea was to get Paragon released as fast as possible so people would start using it, then release these more complex features later on. This is what will be happening in Paragon v2. (Paragon v3 is also in the planning stage. It will be focusing on improving the performance of Paragon.)

What features are coming out in Paragon v2?

There are 3 main features coming out:

  1. Pages. (Extensions.)

  2. The ability to change the colours of Paragon.

  3. A full-screen daily timetable.

Extensions

You’re all probably wondering why Extensions are being called “Pages”. This is because I feel that the name Pages better reflects what they do. Pages will be extra pages you can add on to Paragon to add more functionality. This will allow me to add new features to Paragon very quickly, and without sacrificing performance. Due to school policy, only me and anyone else who actively contributes to Paragon can make Pages.

Changing Colours

This is very straightforward. In the settings area there will be a slider you can drag to adjust the colours for Paragon. This will also carry over to the login and logging in screens as well. I added it because it just seemed like something fun to do.

Full Screen Daily Timetable

This was a feature in Sublimate, which not many people remember by now, but it was removed in other apps. It’s now being added to Paragon! Basically, it allows you to full-screen the daily timetable and view only the information about the next class. Information such as, how much longer until it, who the teacher is, and where it is.

This will be useful to people who like to make Paragon very small so they can zoom in on the next class bit of the Daily Timetable, and for people who like to put Paragon in sidebars in their browsers.

Note: You can now view my restored version of Sublimate here.

Welcome to Paragon News!

What is this page?

This page is for Paragon News! (If you hadn’t guessed already.) Paragon News is designed to let me reliably and quickly send out any notifications about upcoming updates to Paragon.

This will be especially important at the beginning of Term 1 next year, as Paragon v2 will be coming out, which will bring a lot of changes. (You can bet they’re going to be really cool! I’ll outline some of the changes in another post.)

What happened to Extensions?

As you might have noticed, the Paragon News page has replaced the page for Extensions. This is mainly because the page for Extensions was fairly useless. It does not mean that Extensions won’t be happening, they’ll still be going ahead.

On that note, due to a bit of clash with school policy, Extensions are going to be slightly altered in the way they work. (Then again, not many people know how they were meant to work anyways. I’ll explain this in the post about all the changes in Paragon v2.)
